Gautam Gambhir “A Special Talent”, Says Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar sent out a special wish for Gautam Gambhir on Twitter. The left-handed batsman announced his retirement from professional cricket on Tuesday.
As soon as he announced his retirement, wishes started pouring in for the classy batsman from all around the world. However, a special wish came from the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, with whom Gambhir played with many years in international cricket.

“Congratulations @GautamGambhir on a glorious career. You were a special talent and had a Gambhir role in our win in the World Cup finals. Batting with you at Napier was extra special. Enjoy your second innings with family and friends!” he wrote on Twitter.

Gambhir himself once said that his innings at Napier remains the best innings of his career. India were following on after being dismissed on a score of 305 in reply to New Zealand’s score of 619/9.

He batted for 643 minutes in the second innings, playing 436 balls in which he scored 137 to ensure that the game ends in a draw. Gambhir and Tendulkar shared 97 runs for the third wicket in 38.5 overs. Later, VVS Laxman would also come to team India’s rescue and score 124* off 269 to help India save the Test. However, Gambhir is highly credited for standing against New Zealand’s bowlers for more than a day.

Gambhir retired from the game after playing 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is. He scored 4154 runs in the longest format of the game while in ODIs, he produced 5238 runs. His will be playing his last professional game for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh that starts from December 6.
